The Ha Giang Immersion (Valleys & Waterways)
* THE FIRST DAY IS NOT ON MOTORBIKES * (see itinerary below)
The "Hidden Ha Giang" Experience
Most operators rush you straight past the region's best spots. We do it differently. This tour is about finding your rhythm, meeting your tribe, and experiencing the serene valleys that most travelers only see through a bus window.
The Vibe: Low-impact adventure. High-impact connection.
The Countryside Warm-Up
Most groups arrive in Ha Giang wrecked from the overnight bus and slam straight into a thousand hairpin turns. We do it different. Day 1 is built around our basecamp — a slow, hands-on warm-up that gets you fed, friended, and rested before the big riding starts.
The Vibe: Low-impact adventure. High-impact connection.
Morning: Valley Mist & Traditions
07:30 — Breakfast & Briefing. Slow start. Traditional breakfast on the stone terrace as the mist lifts off the karsts. We prep the bikes and gear while you soak in the quiet.
09:30 — Two Wheels, No Noise. A gentle 15 km bicycle ride through the lush Ha Giang countryside. No engines yet — just rice fields, dirt tracks, and the sound of the wind.
The Stops:
- The Secret Stream: A swim stop at a local hole the bus tours don't know about.
- Rice Field Fishing: Hands in the paddy. Learn the ancient art of bamboo-basket fishing. (Warning — it's harder than it looks.)
Afternoon: Heritage Lunch & River Adventures
12:30 — Family-Style Feast. Back at the Stone House for a big communal lunch — fresh, locally sourced, no menu.
14:00 — Kayaking & Village Trek. Swap pedals for paddles. Calm valley water, 360° mountain views you can't get from the road, plus a foot-tour of a quiet local hamlet.
Evening: Sunset, Pool & The Social
17:00 — Sunset Session. Head to our countryside Poolside Bar — the first of its kind in the region — for chilled drinks and golden-hour views. Dip in the pool, watch the valley transition into night.
19:30 — The Tribe Dinner. A legendary family-style spread back at basecamp. Swap stories, celebrate the day, fill your belly.
Post-Feast Games: Group games and deep chats around the table. The best way to bond before a hard ride.
Why this day is a MUST
- Acclimatize: Get used to the altitude and the heat before the 1,000 hairpin turns begin.
- The Pool/Bar Combo: No one else has it. Our Heritage Hide is a world away from the noisy city hostels.
Pro-Tip: We built this day because travellers were arriving in Ha Giang tired and stressed. The Countryside Warm-Up means you start the loop with a clear head, a full stomach, and a new group of friends. Loop More starts with a better start.
Overnight: Loop Eco Stone House Ha Giang
* THE FIRST DAY IS NOT ON MOTORBIKES *
The Ascent to the UNESCO Geopark
From Valleys to the Hmong Kings
Today the "Party Moderately" strategy pays off. While other groups struggle with the first climb, our tribe is fueled, focused, and ready for the most iconic passes in Southeast Asia. We leave the valley behind and roll into the UNESCO Global Geopark.
The Vibe: High-altitude adrenaline. A masterclass in culture.
Morning: The Gateway to the Clouds
08:00 — The Launch. Final check-out from basecamp. Fuel up with a hearty breakfast, meet your expert guides, and join the morning Tribe Chat.
The Climb:
- Bac Sum Pass: Your first taste of the hairpins — we stop at the top to look back at the valley you just conquered.
- Heaven's Gate (Quan Ba): The highest peak of the morning and the official gateway into the Dong Van Karst Plateau.
- Can Ty Pass: A winding descent through lush landscapes and hidden ethnic hamlets.
Cultural Masterclass:
- Lung Tam Hmong Weaving Village: Not just a photo op. We visit a traditional brocade-weaving workshop where Hmong women turn hemp into art — perfect if you want authentic gifts for your tribe back home.
Afternoon: History & High Passes
12:30 — Yen Minh Pitstop. A well-earned local lunch in Yen Minh Town to recharge for the afternoon's Big Three passes.
The Icons:
- Chin Khoanh Pass: A winding road that looks like a staircase to the sky.
- Tham Ma Pass: The most photographed road in Vietnam. Because we Loop More, we time this stop to dodge the bus crowds.
- Hmong King's Palace (Sa Phin): Step back in time at the historic Vuong family fortress — the "Opium King" history that shaped this borderland.
Evening: Rice Paddies & Sunset Social
Late afternoon — Check-in & Chill. Arrive at Loop Eco Stone House Dong Van, set in the quiet rice paddies below the town — a Heritage Hide worlds away from the noisy hostels in the centre.
Sunset Session. Gather poolside as the karst peaks turn purple. Chilled drinks, fresh mountain air, 10/10 lighting.
19:00 — The Stone House Feast. A big family dinner of regional Dong Van specialties. Share photos, swap hairpin stories, and toast to the road.
Why this day is "Loop Tours" standard
- Ownership Advantage: We bring you to our own property, not random hostels. Same quality and vibe as our Ha Giang basecamp.
- Strategic Timing: Starting fresh from Loop Eco Stone House Ha Giang means you hit the major passes when the light is best and the crowds are thinning.
Pro-Tip: Rest early tonight. Tomorrow is the pivot — the Ma Pi Leng Skywalk and the bikes-on-boats run down the Nho Que. The combo's signature day.
Overnight: Loop Eco Stone House Dong Van
The King of Passes & The Boat Transit
Ma Pi Leng, the Boat, and the Border
The combo's pivot day. We start on the most legendary pass in Vietnam, drop down to the Nho Que River for a bikes-on-boat run through the canyon, and end the day on the Cao Bang side in Bao Lac. Every rider's secret favourite leg.
The Vibe: Pass to river to border. The combo's signature day.
Morning: Walking the Clouds
07:15 — Fuel & First Light. Breakfast at our Dong Van basecamp. We hit the road early to beat the fog and the tour buses.
The Hidden Stop:
- Dawn's Diamond Cave: A geological marvel only the locals know — cool interior, soft light, no other tourists.
The Skywalk:
- Ma Pi Leng Skywalk: This is the one. We ditch the bikes to walk the Skywalk trail — a path carved into the cliff face with a 1,500 m vertical view down to the Nho Que River and the Tu San Canyon. The legendary view of the loop, done the slow way.
Midday: Meo Vac Lunch
Meo Vac Sky Lunch. A local rooftop spot with views back over the karst plateau — the recharge before the Nho Que.
Afternoon: Bikes on Boats
The Signature Stop:
- Bikes on Boats — Nho Que 3: This is the moment. We roll the bikes onto a local boat and cruise the Nho Que River through one of the deepest canyons in Southeast Asia. Cliffs on both sides, emerald water under you, no road noise — riders consistently call this the surprise of the trip.
The Coffee Stop:
- Nhiem Tong River View: A roadside coffee stop perched above the river — the unwind after the Nho Que crossing.
Evening: Into Bao Lac
17:00 — Bao Lac Homestay Check-In. We pull up to our overnight stop perched above the rice paddies. Drop the bags, grab a cold one, and watch the valley turn gold as the sun drops behind the ridges.
19:00 — Family-Style Dinner. A big communal spread on the homestay terrace — regional cooking, no menu, just what's good today. Eat, swap stories from the road, and turn in early.
Why this day is "Loop Tours" standard
- The Pivot Done Right: Most combos race Dong Van → Bao Lac in one shot. We slow it down to fit the Skywalk, the Nho Que boat, and a real coffee stop.
- Bikes on Boats: This isn't on the standard Ha Giang or Cao Bang loops — only our combos fit it in. The signature stop of the trip.
Pro-Tip: Have your phone charged before the boat. The Nho Que canyon stretch is unphotographable, and you'll still try.
Overnight: Bao Lac Homestay
From the Angel Eye to the Waterfall Village
Switchbacks, Borders, and Golden Hour
Today is the postcard day. The road climbs out of Bao Lac, threads its way over a pass that looks impossible on paper, and drops you at one of Southeast Asia's biggest waterfalls — right as the light goes golden.
The Vibe: One legendary stop after another. Pace yourself.
Morning: Climbing Out of Bao Lac
07:00 — Fuel & First Light. Breakfast at the homestay as the mist still hangs in the valley.
08:00 — Early Departure. We hit the road before the heat does.
The Hike:
- Khau Coc Cha Pass: One of the most photographed roads in Cao Bang — fourteen switchbacks stacked vertically up the mountain. We park the bikes and walk a short trail to the viewpoint where you can see the whole staircase below you. Forty-five minutes well spent.
Afternoon: Border Country
12:30 — Ha Quang Lunch. A local family kitchen halfway through the day's ride — home-cooked, hot, and exactly the recharge you need before the afternoon.
The Icon:
- Ban Gioc Waterfall: This is the one. Massive, multi-tiered, and split right down the middle by the Vietnam–China border. We time the arrival for golden hour — the sun drops behind the cliffs and the spray lights up. Boat past the foot of the falls, then explore the area on foot.
Evening: River & Rest
17:00 — Eco Homestead Check-In. We pull off the road and roll onto the homestay.
19:00 — Home-style Dinner. A long family-style meal. Compare photos, swap your Ban Gioc shots, and call it a night.
Why this day is "Loop Tours" standard
- Strategic Timing: We schedule Ban Gioc for golden hour — most groups arrive at midday in flat light and have to share the boardwalk with the bus tours.
Pro-Tip: Bring your swimsuit today. The Quay Son is the cleanest swimming you'll find in northern Vietnam, and it's a 30-second walk from the room.
Overnight: Eco Homestead
The Grand Finale: Peaks & Mountains Rolling Ridges to the Holey Land
Grass Hills and the Holey Mountain
The final ride flips the script — instead of one big icon, today is a string of Loop-exclusive stops the guidebooks haven't mapped yet. Pure ridgelines, an oddly-shaped mountain, and a long lunch before we point the bikes home.
The Vibe: Quiet roads. Big skies. Slow lunch.
Morning: Above the Treeline
08:00 — Breakfast on the River.
The Loop-Exclusive:
- The Peaks of Quy: An exposed grass ridge with 360° views — limestone teeth poking through rolling green in the wet season, dry gold in winter. No signs, no entry gate, no other tourists. This is one we built into the route ourselves.
Midday: The Holey Mountain
12:30 — Quang Uyen Lunch. A family-run cơm lẩu spot in Quang Uyen — the kind of meal you don't want to rush.
The Curiosity:
- Angel Eye Mountain: A natural arch punched clean through a peak — looks photoshopped, isn't. We approach from the valley side for the best angle.
Afternoon: The Wrap-Up
14:30 — Cao Bang City. Return to Loop Hostel for gear return, a final group photo with the guides, and a chance to freshen up before transport.
16:00 — Onward Transport. Organised bus to Hanoi (≈ 6+ hours) departs from the hostel for anyone heading back tonight.
Why this 5-day journey is special
- Energy Management: Day 1's Countryside Warm-Up means you have the stamina for Day 3's pivot — Skywalk, Nho Que boat, ride to Bao Lac — without burning out.
- Bikes on Boats: The Nho Que boat run is the combo's signature stop, exclusive to our 4- and 5-day combos.
- Two Regions, Full Depth: Five days gives you every Ha Giang icon, the full Cao Bang side, plus the Loop-built routes between them — no rush, no shortcuts.
