Caves, Falls, and Golden Hour

Two days, every icon. Day 1 is the greatest-hits run — a craft village, a cold-water swim, a cathedral-sized cave, and one of Southeast Asia's biggest waterfalls at golden hour. We pace it so you actually see them, not race past them.

The Vibe: Big-hits day. Long saddle. Worth every minute.

Morning: Roll-Out & Craft

08:30 — The Launch. Check out of Loop Hostel Cao Bang. Breakfast, guide intros, and the morning Tribe Chat. Gear check, route briefing, riding order locked in before we throw a leg over.

09:00 — Wheels Up. Out of Cao Bang City and toward the Phuc Sen craft villages.

The Craft Stop:

  • Phuc Sen Paper Village (Ban Dia / Dia Tren): A working Nung village where families still hand-make traditional bark paper the same way they have for generations. Short workshop — flatten the pulp yourself if you want to. Not a museum, not a souvenir stop. The real thing.

Late Morning: River Stop

The Swim Stop:

  • Quay Son River: Clear, cold, and emerald green — the cleanest swimming in northern Vietnam. We hit it before the day's heat peaks. Bring your swimsuit on the bike.

Afternoon: Caves & Falls

12:30 — Lunch. A local spot the guides pick on the day — fresh, hot, and unmistakably regional.

The Cave:

  • Nguom Ngao Cave: A cathedral-sized karst system the locals call "Tiger Cave" — about thirty minutes of trekking through dripping limestone halls and floodlit galleries. Cool inside, even at midday.

The Icon:

  • Ban Gioc Waterfall: This is the one. Massive, multi-tiered, and split right down the middle by the Vietnam–China border. We time the arrival for golden hour — the sun drops behind the cliffs and the spray lights up. Boat past the foot of the falls, then explore the area on foot.

Evening: River & Rest

17:00 — Eco Homestead Check-In. We pull off the road and roll onto the homestay.

19:00 — Home-style Dinner. A long family-style meal. Compare photos, swap your Ban Gioc shots, and call it a night.

Why this day is "Loop Tours" standard

  • Greatest Hits, Right Order: Paper village, swim, cave, falls — every Cao Bang icon in one day, paced so you actually see them.
  • Strategic Timing: Ban Gioc at golden hour means the flat-light bus tours are heading out as we're rolling in.

Pro-Tip: Pack the swimsuit at the top of your daypack. The Quay Son stop comes earlier than people expect, and you don't want to be unpacking the bike on the riverbank.

Overnight: Eco Homestead

Grass Hills and the Holey Mountain

The final ride flips the script — instead of more icons, today is a string of Loop-exclusive stops the guidebooks haven't mapped yet. Pure ridgelines, an oddly-shaped mountain, and a long lunch before we point the bikes home.

The Vibe: Quiet roads. Big skies. Slow lunch.

Morning: Above the Treeline

08:00 — Breakfast. One last meal before we roll out.

The Loop-Exclusives:

  • The Peaks of Quy: An exposed grass ridge with 360° views — limestone teeth poking through rolling green in the wet season, dry gold in winter. No signs, no entry gate, no other tourists. This is one we built into the route ourselves.

Midday: The Holey Mountain

12:30 — Quang Uyen Lunch. A family-run cơm lẩu spot in Quang Uyen — the kind of meal you don't want to rush.

The Curiosity:

  • Angel Eye Mountain: A natural arch punched clean through a peak — looks photoshopped, isn't. A short walk up to the viewpoint gets you the best angle.

Afternoon: The Wrap-Up

14:30 — Cao Bang City. Return to Loop Hostel for gear return and a final group photo with the guides.

15:00 — Tour ends. Onward transport to Hanoi can be arranged from the hostel for anyone heading back tonight.

Why this 2-day journey is special

  • Beyond the Brochure: The Peaks of Quy  aren't on the standard Cao Bang itinerary — they're routes Loop scouted and added.
  • The Real Cao Bang in 48 Hours: Two days, every icon, none of the rush.
